We’ve made sure every Matchday Champions player starts with enough footballer cards to jump immediately in to their first match.
During that first match – you’ll see footballer cards from both sides pop up as they are involved in the action on the pitch. This is the start of getting to know your squad. Check out the post match screen as any XP earned is delivered, especially the Player of the Match!
Each player has a number displayed under their name – this is their OVR (Overall Rating). The OVR. In short, the higher the number, the better the player’s performance. This will help you when making decisions of where to upgrade.
GK - Goalkeeper, LB - Left Back, RB - Right Back, CB - Centre Back, LM - Left Midfielder, RM - Right Midfielder, DM -Defensive Midfielder, CM - Central Midfielder, AM - Attacking Midfielder, ST - Striker, LW - Left Winger, RW - Right Winger.
Players in their correct positions play better. Yes it might be cool to try a field full of Mbappés, but any card in the wrong section of the pitch will incur an OVR penalty in the matches.
Cards will show you their position, for example GK for Goalkeeper. That’s an obvious one, but how about RM and LB?
You select and drag a player card on the pitch, you’ll see if a slot is not suitable for it. If you’re not sure who is best in a particular position - use the Quick Swap button and the game will automatically select the most suitable player.
